The next time you’re looking for Big Game Hunts in the North Georgia Mountains be sure to call Flies and Fletching…where first class service is always our first priority. Our knowledgeable staff and guides can customize the hunt of your dreams while serving up adventurous pursuits for whitetail deer, Eastern wild turkey, black bear, and wild boar on both public and private land.
Whitetail deer can be found in all four corners of the peach state with some areas producing better than others. Lack of hunting pressure in the mountains of North Georgia makes this area one of the best kept secrets in the state for harvesting a quality buck. Although not as large as deer found elsewhere in Georgia the population of whitetails in the Blue Ridge Mountains continues to grow and provide hunters with plenty of opportunities to fill the freezer. The population of whitetails in the state of Georgia is estimated at around 1.2 million and the WMA’s located in the northern counties consistently provide better numbers of harvested deer than those in the south.
North Georgia is bear country and recent seasons have seen much larger bears than years past. Black bears hold their own and continue to flourish in this rugged, mountainous terrain. The odds of harvesting a black bear in this part of the state are better than you might think and hunting statistics over the years have proven it’s better now than ever before. In all 12 North Georgia counties and the 15 WMA’s located within there is roughly one black bear per square mile of habitat making this a viable and healthy population of over 3,000 bears. For all hunters, whether with bow or rifle, any legal bear in Georgia qualifies as a “trophy” animal and your chances of harvesting a trophy bear are even greater in the northern regions.
Spring is a wonderful time of year in the mountains of North Georgia. The weather is on a warming trend, the tree’s turn bright green with new life, wildflowers break ground in a skyward quest, the days begin to get longer and the nights shorter, and just as years past thousands of hunters of all ages begin trekking into the woods in search of a big Eastern wild turkey. The sound of gobbles resounding through the trees is enough to make any hunter’s heart skip a beat and pound at a different pace. Only the turkey’s strong desire to mate and reproduce evens our odds at bagging such a wary bird. There's nothing like sweet-talking a big tom into shooting range, anticipating his each and every move and pulling the trigger on one of hunting’s most challenging pursuits. Statewide, the population of turkeys in the Peach State rests somewhere around 350,000 birds… Georgia turkey hunters are truly blessed.
Some of the most exciting animals to hunt in the Georgia Mountains are feral pigs or the wild boar. Pursuing these ill-mannered critters through dense forest cover is not a sport for the weak and timid… it is considered extreme and is a sure fire way to get your blood pumping. Wild hogs are dangerous animals and should never be taken lightly. In the state of Georgia there is no closed season on hogs and all that is needed for a hunt is a standard hunting license either in state or out.
